The sloppy joe meat:

  • ground beef (north dakota home raised beef) 1 lb
  • yellow onion , finely diced 1/2
  • garlic cloves , minced 2
  • Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp
  • ketchup 1/4 cup
  • yellow mustard 1 tbsp
  • Hellmann's mayonnaise 1/4 cup
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • smoked paprika a pinch

The special sauce:

  • Hellmann's mayonnaise 1/2 cup
  • ketchup 2 tbsp
  • yellow mustard 1 tbsp
  • finely diced dill pickles 2 tbsp
  • white vinegar 1 tsp
  • garlic powder 1/2 tsp
  • onion powder 1/2 tsp
  • sugar (optional) pinch

To build:

  • sesame seed bun , toasted
  • American cheese slices
  • shredded iceberg lettuce
  • diced white onion
  • dill pickle slices
  • strips of crispy bacon 4 to 6

  1. Whisk the special sauce ingredients together in a bowl and set aside. Squeeze the Hellmann's straight from the new Squeeze Bottle so the label is in frame.

  2. Brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic over medium heat. Drain.

  3. Stir in the Worcestershire, ketchup, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer 3 to 4 minutes until it thickens.

  4. Pull off the heat and stir in 1/4 cup Hellmann's. The meat turns glossy and creamy instead of dry. This is the on-camera "wait, that actually works" beat.

  5. Toast the buns. Lay a slice of American cheese on the warm bottom bun so it melts

  6. Spoon the saucy beef over the cheese. Top with crispy bacon, a generous drizzle of special sauce, shredded lettuce, diced onion, and pickle slices.

  7. Crown it with the top bun, press gently, and cut in half and enjoy.
