Championing Sustainable Packaging

We believe that good food shouldn’t cost the earth, which is why we are constantly looking for ways to improve our packaging and reduce plastic waste.

Recyclability of Hellmann’s products

Hellmann's has joined the On-Pack Recycling label (OPRL) scheme to help UK households correctly recycle more packaging material, more often.  Help us make the planet a better place - please recycle!

Hellmann’s Seaweed Sachet trial

Here at Hellmann’s we’re passionate about leading the way towards a more sustainable future. From reducing plastic in our packaging to encouraging love for leftovers with our ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ initiative, we continue to test and explore new ways to help people enjoy delicious meals as sustainably as possible.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Just Eat and Notpla to tackle single-use plastic pollution in takeaways, replacing single-use plastic sauce sachets with seaweed sachets.

During this initial trial, Just Eat restaurant partners will be offering a range of Hellmann’s ketchup, BBQ, tartare and garlic sauces, all served in the 100% biodegradable seaweed sachets. They are flavourless and colourless, so Just Eat customers can enjoy the same great tasting Hellmann’s – but with zero plastic waste

The seaweed sachets are made from an alginate-based material and biodegrade in approximately six weeks. The Notpla sachets are opened just like normal sachets and can be thrown into the home compost or even a normal waste bin, to fully decompose.

Just like a normal sachet, simply tear off the corner and squeeze out the sauce!

Enjoy Real Taste, with Less Waste!
