Taste Matter

WE TRIED TRADER JOE’S BEST VEGAN BUY & HERE ARE OUR FAVOURITES

Vegan burgers has been tapped as one of the biggest food trend of 2019!

Eating vegan no longer feels restrictive — especially when exploring the grocery aisles of Trader Joe’s. The budget-friendly store boasts a massive lineup of vegan products that range from savory to sweet, breakfast to dessert, and pretty much everything in between. While we’ve been slowly eating our way through the different offerings, we decided that it was time to taste test and curate a list of our own IRL favorites. And so we did. Not everyone looking for a vegan dish wants a “meat replacement.” On the other hand, some (especially converted carnivores) might miss that meaty texture they once loved so much. And when you sauté it in our Organic Kansas City BBQ Sauce until it shreds apart, then put it on one of our Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns, you end up with one, delicious dialogue between Jackfruit, bun & mouth. As the world’s largest tree-fruit, the Jackfruit droops down from Thailand trees, sometimes weighing as much as one hundred pounds each. That size is not very practical for cooking; on the other hand, a can of Trader Joe’s Green Jackfruit is super easy to handle in your kitchen. Say hello to Trader Joe’s Hi-Protein Veggie Burger. Indeed, it has a load of protein (26g per 4 oz. patty, compared to 17g in an average 4 oz. beef patty), thanks to a boost from a pea protein blend that includes yellow peas & black beans. Almond butter in salad dressing? Trust us, it works! More than “works,” it’s delicious. Instead of standard “oil & vinegar,” this Dressing is 26.5% unsalted almond butter and 18% cold pressed lemon juice, seasoned with a zingy mix of ginger, garlic, lemon zest, turmeric, and black pepper.

Best Trendy Ingredient: Jackfruit Cakes

Jackfruit has been tapped as one of the biggest food trends of 2019 because it offers a meaty texture that many vegans and vegetarians miss. These crab-less cakes bring that texture while creating a new take on a classic seafood dish without the seafood. After the burger we have another fav’ the Riced Cauliflower Bowl: Inspired by the fare from some of our favorite vegan restaurants, and made possible by the veritable versatility of a certain brassy little brassica, Trader Joe’s Riced Cauliflower Bowl is all about simple ingredients, big flavors, and a variety of fascinating textures. We start with a bed of riced cauliflower, topped with chopped sweet potatoes, red onions, and baked tofu. Next, we add chickpeas, which have been marinated and cooked in olive oil, then seasoned with chili & garlic powder, oregano, salt, and cumin. And for the final, finishing touch, we add a little sambal oelek red chili paste, a bit of tamari soy sauce, and a cool, creamy tahini sauce to tie all the flavors together. Oh, cauliflower. Is there anything you can’t do? Pssss… Also try the Mango Mango Mochi —> These non-dairy morsels also come in coffee and strawberry. AMAZING!
